Here is a niece update: Miss A has now passed the three year mark, and I am coming up on my 3 year knitting anniversary. I sent her a Hello Kiity backpack, kickboard and some other assorted pink stuff....no knitted gifts this birthday...Houston is too hot for her to wear knitted stuff. Little Susie is growing and growing, she now matches Annabel's height at 10 months, but weighs 1 1/2 pounds less. She is quite charming (according to her grandmothers), and laughs at absolutely everything Annabel does.
Annabel is very involved in swimming lessons this summer, her teacher comes to the house for an hour twice a week. Annabel is now swimming under water, all the way across the pool.
I have been in a knitting slump lately. My little LYS has been closed because of water damage. The sprinkler system blew a gasket two floors above the store, and water seeped down through 150 years worth of termites and rodents. YUCK. All the yarn was ruined, some of the quilting fabric and all of the floss had to go. So sad, and I am trying to find the silver lining....they get to buy all new stock for the store!!!
My job is changing a bit for the summer....the good news is that the changes include a commission schedule, so I will have some more $$ on hand. I am trying to adjust to the temperature, it's around 85 degrees in my room right now. Luckily there is a strong breeze (really it's pretty windy), so I feel pretty comfortable.
Still don't have a summer suntan, I guess I am fending off wrinkles and skin cancer. My sunscreen is rated 45 or 50....I will not age before my time. I have met lots of people here who look older than they really are.....by about 15-20 years. I will not be one of those people.
Friday afternoon I went on a little boat ride over to Lanai. My roommate is very good friends with all the captains on the ferry boats, so we got the royal treatment. It takes about 45 minutes to get across to Lanai from Lahaina. I still didn't see any dolphins, boo hoo.

Lanai is an interesting place. I was invited to a graduation party held Friday night. There are less than 3000 people on Lanai, and I think 2000 of them came to this party. I was one of only about 20 haoles to attend, and as a result I was one of the tallest people in attendance as well. I spent the night at a friend's house, she works at the Four Seasons (the Lodge at Koele). Lanai is quite beautiful, the hotels are fairly new, built sometime in the early 1990s. I think David Murdock owns most of the island. All the pineapple fields are gone, they get all their pineapple from Maui now. Apparently tourism pays better than pineapple.
